The following link contains a letter of opposition to the 88 Senators who have requested Secretary of State Pompeo to pressure the Polish government to take action on the restitution of property of Holocaust victims left in Poland.
We recommend that you take immediate action in sending an email to your respective Senator to voice your opposition. The following is an example of an email that you may find convenient to use:
I am opposed to the letter that you and 87 other Senators have sent to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo requesting he put pressure on the Polish government to take action on the restitution of property of Holocaust victims in Poland. Poland has complied with the law in handling this matter. However, the claim for restitution of heirless property appears (H.R. 1226 / S. 447) to be the latest attempt to extract compensation for ? The law in Poland and the USA is for heirless property to revert to the local government. Why ask Poland to do something that is not done in the USA? Keep in mind, Poland was invaded and occupied in 1939, and it did not regain its independence until 1989. As one of the major allies in WWII, Poland was betrayed and subjugated to Stalin and the Soviets by the USA and Great Britain. Furthermore, as the strongest US ally in Europe, Poland is still treated poorly by the USA (Visa waiver denial, S.447, et al).
I urge you to withdraw your support of this letter to Secretary of State Pompeo and request your colleagues to do the same.
